December 2024 Removing Racist Covenants Workshop
Community members attended a workshop on the legacy of racist covenants and learned how to file a deed amendment to remove them from their properties. Racist covenants were implemented by housing developers who wanted their neighborhoods to be occupied by white families only. Although these covenants became illegal and void in 1968 because of the Fair Housing Act, the racist language remains attached to 1 in 3 Tucson homes.
November 2024 Solar Energy Education for Homeowners
Solar experts Hilda from SERI and Yaminha from The Solar Maven shared best practices for maximizing the benefits of solar while avoiding the pitfalls. SERI, in partnership with Technicians for Sustainability, has a Solar Empowerment Program for low-income homeowners that covers 60% of the cost solar installation and ensures no increase in the home's energy budget.
